Balloon Enteroscopy (DBS)
The
painless and easy way out for all complex intestinal problems.
Introduced
for only the second time in India gives us the opportunity
to conquer the 'Dark Continent' i.e. small bowel. With this
instrument, we can easily reach terminal ileum from mouth and
this can help us treating difficult problems like occult/obscure
GI bleed or suspected small bowel diarrhea of more than 4 weeks
in duration. Disease like tuberculosis, tropical sprue,
Whipple's disease and lymphoma can be diagnosed easily. Also
polypectomies and stricture dilatation are now possible in small
bowel. Obtaining tissue diagnosis in malignant diseases of small
bowel has become extremely simple. Double Balloon Enteroscope
has given us an important way of evaluation of pain in the
abdomen where small bowel is suspected to be the cause for the
same. This instrument offers significant advantages over
'Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE)' by giving us the option of
obtaining the tissue samples and performing therapy in one
sitting which is not possible with WCE and it significantly
reduces cost when compared to WCE.
