Mysore’s only facility of this kind, we offer most of
the diagnostic modalities under one roof. The department is
equipped with world-class equipments from Siemens, many of them
first time in India.
To further this commitment of providing world-class facilities,
Vikram Hospital has procured “Sensation 16”, which
is the world’s best high-speed CT Scanner. It is installed
only in a few places worldwide and is the first in Southern
India.
Procedures & Facilities:
- MRI (Open Type)
- Somotom
Sensation Cardiac
- Ultrasonography
- Colour Doppler
- Interventional Radiology
- Conventional Radiology
- CR - 500, Comptuerised / Digital X Ray
Sensation 16:
Sensation 16 is a CT Scanner, however that is where
the similarity with all other ordinary CT Scanners ends. It
has created a sensation all over the world and hence the name
“Sensation 16”. This very high end CT Scanner captures
over 40 CT images per second and these images are captured in
three dimension and real motion. Hence we can image the heart
in live motion and in three dimension capturing details up to
every millimeter. Now we can view the coronary arteries throughout
their length and look for blocks in them to an accuracy comparable
to the conventional coronary angiogram as performed in a conventional
cardiac catheterization laboratory. Moreover, we can visualize
the type of collection that is causing the block. This collection
(cholesterol plaque) may be associated with or without calcification.
This investigation is very easy to perform and takes just 20
seconds of actual scan time. It is an out patient procedure.
Just like any ordinary CT scan procedure, intravenous radio
opaque contrast is used. No invasive catheters are used and
the patient can immediately walk away after the examination.
The other application for this equipment is an ultra fast,
high quality total body scanning in three dimensions. Patients
can undergo virtual bronchoscopy and virtual colonoscopy without
having to go through the inconvenience of an endoscopic examination.
Cancerous cells when they are as small as a few millimeters
can be detected far earlier than any other non-invasive investigation.
Particular advantage is for early detection of lung cancers
in high-risk individuals (smokers for over ten years, family
history of cancer, etc.). Accurate follow-up is possible to
evaluate response to various anti-cancer treatments. This scanner
is also useful in patients with polytrauma, that is patients
with multiple injuries following an accident. The entire extent
of injuries sustained throughout the body can be accurately
evaluated to enable appropriate treatment modalities to be planned.
Our investment in this high-end equipment substantiates our
commitment to providing world-class treatment to the community.
